Military Estimates

If a move has damaged your furniture, we carry out the on-site inspection and write the report your claim depends on.

We have been doing this for the local bases for many years, having been trained to provide these inspections by the housing director at the former Fort Monroe.

One thing to know before we arrive: bring your own copy of the complaint. We are not permitted to coach you, or to remind you of items you have forgotten to list — so the inspection goes quickest, and serves you best, when you have your paperwork in front of you.

Where a claim results in repair, we can carry that out ourselves. The inspection fee is fixed; any repair quoted afterwards depends on the piece.

Where we inspect

We regularly attend Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis, Norfolk Naval Base, Camp Peary, the Naval Weapons Station at Yorktown and the Coast Guard station at Yorktown.

If you are stationed elsewhere in the region, ask — our normal service area is a 25-mile radius of the workshop, and we travel beyond it where it makes sense.

How the work goes

The inspection is performed on site. We examine and record the damage, take photographs of it, and produce a written report.

The whole process runs one to four days from inspection to finished report.

The report costs $185, with photographs at $3 each. What we provide is the inspection and the report — filing the claim itself remains yours to do.

Claims routed through Military Claims are familiar territory — they are one of the companies we work for regularly, along with the major moving and packing firms.

If your claim is settled in favour of repair rather than replacement, we can do that work too: see furniture repair and refinishing. Moving companies and claims handlers should see insurance inspections.
