How the work goes
The old fabric comes off first, then every staple is pulled and the interior is
cleaned up and made secure. This is the part nobody sees and the part that
decides how long the finished piece lasts.
With the frame exposed we check the spring system and secure anything that has
worked loose. Only then does the new covering begin: a pattern is made for the
piece in front of us, and the fabric is stapled into place.
Underneath the fabric we use foams and raw cotton for fill. It is all hand work,
through to completion.
Chairs, sofas and headboards needing full upholstery come to the shop. Dining and
kitchen chairs are simpler — those can be done either at our shop or in
your home.
What it costs
Chair seats start at around $80. Sofas vary considerably depending on their size and how
much detail the piece carries — buttoning, piping, skirts and exposed show
wood all add hand work.
Because you supply the fabric, that cost sits with you and is entirely your

A job we remember
A Victorian fainting couch came in with water damage and staining. Its mahogany
trim was exposed and needed repair and refinishing before any upholstery could
begin — a reminder that these jobs are rarely upholstery alone.
The owner chose a white and blue print. Finished with gimp trim against the
restored mahogany, it looked quite remarkable.
